4Drive Bosnia is a booking platform that links you directly with established rental companies operating across Bosnia and Herzegovina. We handle the reservation process, you receive a voucher, and the local company hands over the keys. That's the model. No middleman at the counter, no ambiguity about who owns the vehicle or who you call if something goes wrong on the road.
Our focus is practical: high-clearance vehicles, transparent terms, and payment flexibility. The rental agreement itself is signed when you collect the vehicle, with the local operator's contact details provided in your voucher. Damage assessments, fuel policies, and additional services are all managed by the company you meet in person.
The booking flow is straightforward. You search for a vehicle using your dates and pick-up location. The results show what's available, along with the payment methods accepted for the balance at collection - some vehicles permit debit cards or cash, others require a credit card. Each listing spells it out.
When you confirm a reservation, you pay a booking advance online by card. This secures your vehicle. The balance is settled when you collect the keys, using the method specified in your voucher. You'll also receive the rental company's name, their counter or delivery details, and a contact number for any last-minute changes.
At pick-up, you sign the rental agreement, inspect the vehicle together with the agent, and note any existing marks or scratches. That document governs your rental period. When you return the vehicle, the same inspection happens in reverse. If you need extras - a second driver, a child seat, written permission for cross-border travel to Croatia, Serbia or Montenegro, or a motorway vignette - you arrange and pay for those directly with the rental company.
We work with rental operators in Sarajevo and Banja Luka. Both cities serve as gateways to different parts of the country: Sarajevo to the south and east, Banja Luka to the north and west. Airport pick-up is available at SJJ, as is city-centre collection or hotel delivery, depending on the company handling your booking.
Distance matters here. Sarajevo to Mostar is about 130 km on the M17. Sarajevo to Jajce runs close to 170 km. Mountain roads are narrow, winding, and often unlit. Snow covers higher routes from November through March. Plan your route accordingly, and choose a vehicle that matches the terrain you intend to cover.
A no-deposit arrangement means the rental company does not place a hold on your card at pick-up. The excess - the amount you're liable for in the event of damage - still applies, as stated in your rental agreement. The two are independent parameters. A vehicle can be offered with no deposit while still carrying a standard excess.
This setup appeals to travellers who lack a credit card with a high available limit or who prefer not to have funds frozen for the rental period. Some vehicles on our platform require a deposit, others do not. The listing always clarifies which applies. If you have no credit card, consider raising the limit on your debit card before arrival, as certain vehicles will require one for the balance payment or ancillary charges.
